To understand and study how perception changes with the changing quality of daylight, one should study the factors affecting the quality of light that are color, intensity, and the interfaces it passes through to enter the space. The purpose of this study is to find how a user perceives the space when the same space is reflecting different colors at different intensities.
An average human being lives most of his life in and around his home. The house is the first built environment a human experiences fully with his gradual learning. To find out how people perceive the space in different light settings, two experiments are conducted:
-
To find out how people imagine a space to be in when provided with certain emotions
-
To find how people perceive a space when given visualizations of the space with varying light settings.
The result of the experiments will provide information on what quality of light is suitable for which function of the house.

Aim
This research aims to find out how the quality of light changes the perception of a space for the user in a residential building.
Objectives
-
To find out how light and changes the spatial qualities of a building.
-
To learn the impact of colors on human psychology.
-
To observe the relation between the spatial configuration and the emotions associated with that space.
-
To establish a relationship between the space, light, and the user.
Scope
-
The study focuses on the quality of natural light in residential projects.
-
The research focuses on the inhabitants of the spaces.
-
The quality of light is considered only during the day and with clear sky conditions.
Limitation
-
Since sky and atmospheric conditions are highly variable and change with every location, this factor is not been considered in studying the quality of light.
-
The participants for the surveys are chosen from the field of architecture and design because of their experience and the ability to visualize themselves in the described hypothetical space.
-
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic scenario, all the studies, experiments, and surveys are done through a virtual platform.

Hypothesis
This research hypothesizes that the Quality of Light changes how the user perceives a space.
Research Questions
-
What are the constituents of light?
-
How does light affect the human body and psychology?
-
What emotions are imparted/ experiences by people when subjected to certain colors?
-
How do colors on different building elements change the perception of space for the user?
